What is NVR vs DVR Difference?
A DVR (Digital Video Recorder) records analog CCTV cameras connected by coaxial cable, converting their signal to digital at the recorder. An NVR (Network Video Recorder) records IP cameras that digitise video themselves and send it over network cable or Wi-Fi. The practical differences: NVR systems offer higher resolutions, power cameras through the same cable (PoE), and place cameras anywhere the network reaches.
In India, DVR setups with HD analog cameras remain popular for small shops because a four-camera kit costs ₹8,000 to ₹15,000 and reuses old coaxial wiring. IP/NVR systems cost more but scale better and suit AI analytics, which want the sharpest possible footage. For forensic work the recorder type matters mainly at export time — both should export with correct timestamps and in playable formats.
