What is ISP Franchise Model?

The ISP franchise model lets a local entrepreneur run an internet business under a licensed provider's umbrella: the parent ISP holds the government license and bulk bandwidth, while the franchisee invests in local fibre or wireless infrastructure, connects customers, collects payments and handles support in their area. Revenue is shared, commonly with the franchisee keeping the larger portion of subscription income.

This is how broadband reaches much of small-town India โ€” local cable operators becoming fibre franchisees of larger ISPs. Typical entry costs run a few lakh rupees for OLT equipment, fibre and installation stock, serving a few hundred homes at plans of โ‚น400 to โ‚น700 monthly. The franchisee's daily operations โ€” new activations, plan changes, disconnection of defaulters, complaint tracking โ€” are usually run through a billing and management panel.
