What is Loitering Detection?
Loitering detection is video analytics that flags a person remaining in a defined area beyond a set time — someone standing near an ATM for ten minutes, circling a parking lot repeatedly, or waiting outside a jewellery shop after closing hours. Unlike simple motion detection, which fires on any movement, loitering detection tracks each individual across frames, measures how long they stay inside the marked zone, and evaluates behaviour rather than mere presence.
The value is catching incidents before they happen: burglaries and vehicle thefts are usually preceded by observable reconnaissance, and a live alert lets a guard or owner intervene while it is still just "someone standing around". Indian deployments include bank ATM lobbies, society perimeters at night, and warehouses.
