What is Star Rating?
A star rating is the one-to-five score customers assign a business, averaged and displayed prominently on Google, Zomato, Amazon and similar platforms. Google shows the average to one decimal place along with the review count, and both numbers influence buying decisions and search filters — many customers filter Maps results to "4.0+", making anything below invisible to them.
The mathematics matter for Indian businesses: recovering from a low average is slow because every new rating is diluted by history. A shop at 3.8 stars from 100 reviews needs roughly 40 consecutive five-star reviews to cross 4.2. That is why steady review collection from satisfied walk-in customers — rather than panic drives after bad reviews — is the only sustainable way to protect the rating.
