What is Domain vs Subdomain?

A domain is your main web address — yourshop.in — registered annually with a registrar. A subdomain is a free prefix carved out of it: menu.yourshop.in, blog.yourshop.in, app.yourshop.in. Each subdomain can run a completely separate website or application on the same domain registration, at no extra registration cost, and you can create as many as needed.

The practical uses: businesses separate their main site from tools — the marketing site on yourshop.in, the billing portal on billing.yourshop.in, a QR menu on menu.yourshop.in. SEO-wise, Google largely treats subdomains as related-but-separate sites, so core content usually belongs on the main domain in subfolders. In India, a .in or .com domain costs roughly ₹500 to ₹900 per year; subdomains cost nothing.
