What is PWA (Progressive Web App)?

A PWA, or Progressive Web App, is a website engineered to feel like a mobile app: it loads fast, works partially offline, can send notifications, and lets users "install" it on their home screen with an icon — all without going through the Play Store. Under the hood it is still a web page, so one build runs on Android, iPhone and desktop alike.

For Indian small businesses PWAs remove the two big app barriers: development cost and download friction. A native app can cost ₹2 to 5 lakh to build and most customers refuse to install one for a single restaurant; a PWA opens instantly from a QR scan and still offers app-like speed. QR menus, ordering systems and loyalty cards are commonly delivered as PWAs for exactly this reason.
